Biden, Butcher of Gaza

The announcement by US President Joe Biden that he will not seek re-election in November, draws nearly to a close the three and a half year term of the genocidaire-in-chief. Already, the attempt is being made to paint over and minimize Biden’s central role in the genocide on Gaza and US imperialism more broadly. But there is no escaping Biden’s legacy as commander-in-chief of the declining empire who oversaw one of the bloodiest and most brutal genocides in modern history.

For nearly ten months and counting, the Biden administration has helped direct the genocide at every step: from constructing the fake “humanitarian pier” that was used by US troops to infiltrate Nuseirat camp and commit one of the worst massacres of the genocide, to the shipment of 2-ton bombs made and packaged in the USA that have collectively destroyed every university and hospital in Gaza, and razed city block after city block, upending the lives of over two million of our people for decades to come. This is beyond complicity — this is direct responsibility for a genocide. And the blood is on Biden’s hands.

There is no question that Gaza played a critical role in Biden’s loss of voter support that culminated in his withdrawal from the race. Election polls consistently showed Biden’s path to re-election as slim, long before the presidential debate that media pundits credited as the reason for the withdrawal of his candidacy. After 9 months in the streets mobilizing against Israel’s US-backed genocide of Gaza, progressives watched Biden double down on his supplying of weapons to Israel, ignoring the will of the masses. During the Democratic primary, hundreds of thousands of registered democrats cast “uncommitted” votes, sending a clear message to Biden that he would not receive their vote so long as the genocide continued on his watch.

Whoever follows Biden, the challenges our movement has faced and the opportunities we aim to seize will also remain, at their core, the same. The struggle continues from within the belly of the beast to disrupt, block, and ultimately thwart the pipeline of empire that allows these horrors against our people to continue.
