Spain Blocks Maersk Ships Headed to Israel

The PYM and Progressive International released a report reviewing 2,110 U.S. shipments on Maersk vessels listed as being shipped to or on behalf of the Government of Israel’s Ministry of Defense, research which implicated Maersk in violating Spanish law by transferring military materiel destined for Israel through Spanish ports. As the outcome of this research, the Spanish government intervened, blocking two Maersk ships carrying military cargo destined for Israel, to dock in Spanish ports.

Mass Protests and Dockworkers Actions in Morocco Delay Maersk Shipments for Months

Upon Spain’s blocking of two ships, Maersk was forced to reroute through Tangier, Morocco. Thousands in Tangier took to the streets to mobilize, and ten Moroccan dockworkers refused to load the cargo, delaying the shipment for months. During this, Moroccan BDS activist Ismail Lghazaoui is unjustly detailed for opposing Morocco’s involvement in the transportation of military goods to the Zionist occupation. In February 2025, Ismail is released early due to international pressure.

Maersk stops docking Israel-bound ships at Algeciras port

Maersk announces that it is changing the service rotation for its MECL line, removing the stop at Algeciras, Spain. Maersk's MECL line includes shipments destined for Israel. This follows two months of campaign research and advocacy exposing Maersk‘s potential violations of Spanish and international law.

Despite the line change, Maersk continues operating through the port of Algeciras, and will reroute only those shipments that stop in Israel, thus avoiding potential inspections or seizures of cargo by the Spanish government.

Over 1,000 activists lead a week of action outside Maersk Headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark

Ahead of the Maersk Shareholder Annual General Meeting, over 1,000 activists from across Europe, including Greta Thunberg, led a weekend of marches, demonstrations, teach-ins outside the Maersk Headquarters in Copenhagen.

This weekend constituted one of the fiercest protests against Maersk in Copenhagen’s history.

French and Moroccan Workers Block Maersk Shipment of F-35 Jet Parts at Fos-sur-Mer Port

In France, dockworkers of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) refuse to handle the Nexoe Maersk at the port of Marseille Fos, a cargo ship en route to pick up F-35 jet parts for delivery to Israel’s Nevatim Air Base. After the dockworkers refused to load the vessel, it was forced to re-route to Casablanca.

There, union workers called for protests that drew thousands of Moroccans who delayed shipment by 39 hours.

Report Reveals Maersk’s Role in F-35 Supply Chain

The Mask off Maersk report Shipments for Slaughter revealed Maersk’s role in sustaining Israel’s F-35 program. The report documents how Maersk has shipped the wings for every Israeli F-35 delivered since at least March 2022, along with wings for five more jets scheduled for delivery by 2028. Maersk has transported F-35 components directly to the Israeli military and its key contractors. Without Maersk’s involvement, the global F-35 supply chain would come to a halt.

In response, organizations worldwide mobilized against Maersk, with actions in Norfolk, NJ, NY, Rotterdam, France, Morocco, Spain, Sydney, Melbourne, and more.

Francesca Albanese publishes and presents report naming Maersk as complicit in profiting off of genocide during UN Human Rights Council

During the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council, Francesca Albanese presented the report titled From Economy of Occupation to Economy of Genocide, which details the results of an investigation on the corporate machinery sustaining Israel’s settler-colonial project and ongoing genocide.

The report names Maersk as one of the complicit corporations profiting off of the genocide.

Maersk halts transport of goods to and from Israeli settlements!

Following the release of our report highlighting Maersk's role in facilitating exports from Israeli settlements, and campaign pressure, Maersk became the first global shipping company to halt the transport of goods to and from Israeli settlements.

This marked the first time in history that a global shipping company has committed to align with the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) database. However, Maersk continues to ship military cargo to Israel.

During this conference, PYM gave a briefing at the emergency summit, where concrete plans for arms embargo were presented, drawing on research gathered by the Mask Off Maersk research team.

Moroccans Reject Maersk Shipment Destined for Israel

BDS Morocco and the Moroccan Front to Support Palestine and Oppose Normalization exposed a Maersk shipment of F-35 wings containers bound for Israel through Tangier Med Port, sparking mass mobilizations. They declared a rejection of Moroccan ports being used for military cargo and called on workers to refuse handling such shipments.
